Anti-War Poster

Anti War Uv Blacklight Poster. A student project on experimental typography.

A college brief required us to design a poster to communicate a pro, or anti-war message. I chose to design my poster for the non profit organization Wikileaks. I decided that it would be suitable to base my concept on cover up’s by the American government. I then discovered a classified US military video which Wikileaks had released to the public, called Collateral Murder.

In the video it clearly shows the unprovoked slaying of over a dozen people in the Iraqi suburb of New Baghdad - including two Reuters news staff. Reuters had been trying to obtain the video through the Freedom of Information Act, without success since the time of the attack. The video is shot from an Apache helicopter gun-sight. What I found the most shocking is the recorded soldiers conversations during the killings.

I wanted to show how secretive the US military was about this classified footage. I printed US military accounts of what happened that day. When the viewer switched on the blacklight, handwritten soldiers logs with a UV marker would then become visible and reveal the truth.

Soldiers logs:
: Theres one guy movin' down there but hes uh, wounded
: Maybe he has a gun down in his hand
: No I havn't seen one yet
: Come on  buddy all you gotta do is pick up a weapon
: Can I shoot?
: Come on let us shoot!
: We're engaging!
{Gunfire}
: Oh yeah, look at that right throught the windshield, haha
: I think we whacked them all!
: Oh yeah look at those dead bastards
: Nice!
